You help a team deliver well, sprint after sprint. You coach the team in Scrum, facilitate its events and clear what slows it down. You also help the team stay calm and learn when Run work interrupts.
Responsibilities
- Coach the team, the Product Owner and stakeholders in Scrum and in how we use it.
- Facilitate sprint planning, the daily scrum, refinement, the sprint review and the retrospective, and keep each to its timebox.
- Own the impediment log, and clear impediments or escalate them within two working days.
- Protect the team's focus, and help it re-plan when an incident takes people away.
- Facilitate post-incident reviews, and keep them blameless.
Where you show up
Change: Delivery. This is your home. You serve one project team, or one Home Team, and facilitate every sprint event.
Run: Incident Management. You often act as communications lead or scribe during Sev 1 and Sev 2 incidents. Afterwards, you run the post-incident review.
Change: Planning. You're welcome at Quarterly Planning, where you often facilitate team breakouts.
Your top tasks
- Run a sprint planning session on day 1 of every sprint.
- Run the daily scrum and clear impediments every working day.
- Run the sprint review and retrospective on the last day of the sprint.
- Run a post-incident review within 5 working days of a Sev 1 or Sev 2.
Who you work with most
- The Product Owner of your team. You lead each sprint event together: they lead the content, and you lead the facilitation.
- The Project Manager, on strategic projects. You raise impediments that are really dependencies, and they chase the other team.
- Other Scrum Masters, through the monthly Scrum Master community meeting.
