Just forProject Managers

What a Project Manager does at Pecos Mutual, where you show up in Run and Change, and your top tasks.

You keep one strategic project on its path. You turn a prioritized project into goals and milestones, manage its risks and dependencies, and keep everyone's view of when it will land honest.

Responsibilities

  • Write the milestone plan for your project each quarter: goals, milestones with "done when", dependencies and risks.
  • Review the proposed project team with the Program Manager, and flag missing skills.
  • Present your plan at Quarterly Planning, and get every dependency agreed by the team that provides it.
  • Update the milestone forecast at every sprint review, as on track, at risk or late.
  • Chase dependencies and escalate risks. You don't assign tasks inside a sprint; that's the team's job.

Where you show up

Change: Planning. This is your home. You lead goals and milestones, review staffing in capacity planning, and present at Quarterly Planning.

Change: Delivery. You join the start of sprint planning to link the sprint goal to the next milestone. At the sprint review, you update the forecast.

Run. When an incident pulls people off your project team, you work with the Product Owner on the effect on the milestone plan.

Your top tasks

  1. Set goals and milestones for your project each quarter, using the milestone plan template.
  2. Present your plan and agree dependencies at Quarterly Planning.
  3. Update the milestone forecast at every sprint review.
  4. Join sprint planning to confirm what the sprint contributes.

Who you work with most

  • The Product Owner and Scrum Master of your project team.
  • The Program Manager, on capacity and on dependencies with other projects.
  • The Product Manager, who owns the outcome your goals serve.
